bibliotechno

I am a technical writer and former librarian and I am studying part-time for a Masters in editing and publishing. I live in a hot country that's getting hotter, thanks to global warming. Oh, for a cool reading nook! I'm not far off 40 and I think it is time to become a bit more discerning in my reading. Any suggestions?

That was quite a compliment, thank you. I do stand out terribly in Utah, for so many reasons. I am only here a short time though, in Portland Oregon I don't seem so bizarre. In fact, I'm very average in Portland. Do you enjoy Sartre?

    Hi Blibliotechno!

I'll get around to putting a proper bio up on Shelfari, and you can skim my publishing from there. [Right now I'm too flat out to do it!]

For now -- the best places to find out about horror publishing in Australia are the AHWA website www.australianhorror.com - and www.ozhorrorscope.blogspot.com

    Hope that's helpful!

I've gotten a lot of intellectual satisfaction out of Animal Farm and PoTEL. Aside from Farm, I prefer his non-fiction.

OMG your description sounds totally like me -- am trying to add more books but it is seriously interfering with my reading, which is just not on :)

    Hi Biblio!
I've noticed that you've read a lot of John Pilger's books. What did you think of his work? I've read Freedom Next Time and Tell Me No Lies (which I noticed wasn't on your shelf but which I would also recommend). As for the others that you've read, I didn't know that they existed. I'll try to hunt those down. Have you seen his docos? They're also a great resource.

What a perfect job for a bookworm. I took a quick look at your shelf and was surprised at the number of books and authors I'm not familiar with. Do you read primarily Australian authors, other than the classics?

I am really fascinated by your books. I agree with your eclectic taste based on the books I know, but what surprises me is the number I don't know. I think that represents the difference between English / European publishers vs. American. It has always amazed me that English publishers publish more titles than American, with relatively small overlap ot the titles.

You can tell by how many of your books have no editorial review on Amazon.

I'm going to start with Darkness at Noon, but would appreciate your thoughts on good books that aren't "American," if you can figure that out.

My very favorite Australian author is Ruth Park and her Harp in the South trilogy.

I don't see many South American authors on your list. My favorite there is Philosopher or Dog by Machado de Assis.

Hi~ Can you recommend any fabulous Australian authors that might not be well known elsewhere. I don't think I know of any?
Lucky you, working in a library!
