I particularly enjoyed the history that the narrative was weaved into. The narrative was good..but after reading The Mists of Avalon~ 20 years ago, the gold standard was gelled in my mind.

LOVED this book. Can not recall the last time I read a book and laughed out loud so much. What a great writer. I learned a lot too.
    Excellent.

I first started reading this book 8 months ago, but found the first bit unimpressive and put it down...I'm sure glad I picked it up again a few days ago--it turned out to be beautiful; I fell in love with this story; I adore and became attached and concerned with the characters, some of the dialogue is so poignant, especially between Aibileen and Mae Mobley.
In the end, an excellent story, excellent writing, and I highly recommend!

This gem has accompanied me and guided me through parenthood!
It's assisted me in giving my child an awareness of cycles/rhythms of life, a deeper awareness, respect, and love for the Earth, and that there are many other beliefs and ways in addition to the predominant ones. Included are stories, myths, crafts, rituals, (the rite of passage celebrations are wonderful)recipes, love and acceptance. I try and review every change of season.

True, storybook love with a twist of reality.
What a magnificent love story. At the risk of arrogance, Henry and Clare remind me (and my husband) so much of our relationship. And the other characters remind us of our friends. It’s eerie.
Audrey Niffenegger has nailed it. This book is beautiful. Heartbreaking and soooo poignant. I have to say, it is my very favorite of all(and I’ve read so many books).
I suppose it’s the resonance, but that is NOT discrediting the beautiful writing.
I heard they may make a film of this—I hope not. I don’t know if I could go and see it, it may ruin my love for it, and I wouldn’t want to spoil that.

Came in very very handy when I was going through a major breakup! Highly recommended for those times! (especially in your early 20's)!

    Interesting read.
Hillman explores the idea of the Greek Daimon (NOT demon!) that resides within and guides/directs/influences one throughout the life span; that we may indeed have a specific purpose.
Hillman is a jungian psychologist and I have an interest in this.
Here is a quote from Hillman:
"My war—and I have yet to win a decisive battle—is with the modes of thought and conditioned feelings that prevail in psychology and therefore also in the way we think and feel about our being. Of these conditions none are more tyrannical than the convictions that clamp the mind and heart into positivistic science (geneticism and computerism), economics (bottom-line capitalism), and single-minded faith (fundamentalism). „

—James Hillman, The Force of Character, 1999, p. xxiv.
A much better review of the book than I can give can be read here: http://www.personaltransformation.com/Hillman.html
