Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery - Jane Austen

Books are my passion, my hobby and my favorite past time. My favorite genres are fiction, with fantasy and adventure as the main ones. I also have a love for classics and darker contemporary fiction. To avoid spamming, I will only add the first volumes of the manga series I like,... more »

I'm about to start the 2nd book in a Marie Antoinette trilogy ( I love reading about her, she's one of my favorite historical figures :) It's called Days of Splendor, Days of Sorrow. As for manga, I'm reading the Saiunkoku Monogatari series. It's in the historical genre. I've seen the anime which I really loved so I'm sure I will love the manga just as much :D

Are you finding time for any reading?

I've been good, what about you? That's alright about being busy :) Hourou Musuko is a manga and they made an anime series of it last year. Both are excellent, so if you have some time, you should check it out. Hope you like it!

I'm also caught up with the Chihayafuru manga (chapter 35) and it's torture waiting for updates! The English translations are so behind, but I guess I should just be happy that it's being scanlated at all.

Great! Not reading as much this year... but that's cause I've been busy so I'm not sure if that's entirely a negative thing! There's still time to hit my record from last year. (Read 20 this year... read 58 last year... Maybe not.)

Currently reading about 4 at once though. With more in the post D: Though I could just read the new ones first and get back to the others I've read at least once. :D

    You?

Have you ever watched or read Hourou Musuko (Wandering Son)? It deals with gender identity. There is a boy who wants to be a girl, and a girl who wants to be a boy. It's one of the more serious and realistic series I've come across. I don't know if you like stories like that, but I definitely recommend it :)

That's true... I read some great things in university so at least you will be reading interesting things even if it is for school.

Thank you! I definitely am loving all the books and manga I've read this year :D I'll let you know once I get caught up on the Chihayafuru manga so we can talk about it more.

That's alright :) I hate when I'm so busy that I can't read. Hope this year isn't too stressful for you!

I plan on reading the manga as soon as the anime is over. I'm excited to see what happens next!

I finished the poetry book and enjoyed it a lot! And I looked up the Hyakunin Isshu book and it's on amazon, so I'll have to buy a copy of that sometime soon :)

I hope Taichi will become a little more mature! The queen Shinobu seems cool, but she hasn't been in the anime very much. Is she in the manga more? I like that her and Chihaya both like funny shirts haha :D

I'm about halfway through the Japanese poetry book... I've recognized the one about Naniwa Bay, but in the introduction, the translater said that only some poems that appear in Karuta are in this edition. So I will probably have to buy it if I want to read the hundred poets. I'll have to shop around online! I really like the poems in this edition though, and the romaji is included, so I've been trying to sing them out loud like they do on the show :D haha It takes some practic, but it's fun!

I really dislike Taichi a lot! I don't forgive him for how he treated Arata and he's such a jealous brat. I think it's because he's rich and getting whatever he wants.

I'll be picking up the book from the library soon... not sure if it will have the same 100 poets, I hope so! I'll look for some of the lines that I remember from the show :) The book is in English because I can't read Japanese unfortunately :(

Yes, I think Arata and Chihaya are really sweet together! I love how she was his only friend when they were kids and he was bullied. Kanade is really sweet and I agree, it's great that she is a fan of the poetry. I think there is a copy of the 100 poets at my library so I'm going to read it :D

I like to do that too because the manga continues the story where the anime left off :) I want to read the mangas for Kuragehime, Chihayafuru, and Hourou Musuko because I love the animes a lot!

I read the first two volumes of Pandora Hearts, but I was really confused. Supposedly it becomes better, but I haven't read anymore volumes of it.

I saw the anime for FMA Brotherhood (so good!), but I haven't read the manga yet.

I hope you like them :D Kuroshitsuji has the most beautiful art. I've read Fruits Basket (great series), but not Kare Kano so I will definitely look that up. Thanks for the recommendation!

Well since you like literature, you might like the Bungaku Shoujo manga (there are also light novels for it which I love).

I just finished Gokusen, which is about a female teacher at a delinquent school. She's the grand daughter of a yakuza boss and a really strong fighter. It's a great story if you don't mind swearing.

I'm not sure what manga you've already read... well Ouran, Shinobi Life, Black Butler, Lovely Complex, Nana, and Tramps Like Us (Kimi wa Pet) are my favorite series :)
