Sonja M

Sonja M

I'm an instructor at a large Midwestern community college in the U.S. and very interested in women's studies (I teach an introductory course). As much as possible, I relish hours spent up at my 'treehouse' studio, where I enjoy collage, hooking wool rugs, drawing, writing, reading...and dreaming!

    Hello Sonja,
Thank you for your nice note. We would love to have you and your daughter visit with us here in Italy. If I can be of any help with your plans, i would more than be happy to help. You just have to be patient as it takes me a while to get to all the correspondence that I need to, but I will always reply. If you have any interest, our web site for our B&B is www.BellaBaita.com and I also write a blog about our area and things going on in this part of the Italian Alps and that is www.BellaBaitaView.blogspot.com

Hi Sonja. Glad to make your acquaintance! I glanced on your shelf real quickly and saw that you're reading "The Golden Compass". I just received it in the mail and will be starting it shortly. How are you enjoying it? I'm interested in seeing how it appeals to me and if I find that it insults my faith (I tend to doubt that it will...). I know how you feel being a progressive in Kansas!!! I grew up in Kansas City (on the MO side of the river) and was raised by very liberal parents...am therefore liberal myself. Looking forward to book talk with you and getting to know a bit more about you. I'm fascinated by you teaching women's studies! What an exciting year to be doing that, no?!

Hi Sonja! Yes, it's really a great book! I always recommend it to people who are not used to reading philosophy. It's a very good place to start, specially for the younger public :)
I don't usually re-read, except in rare cases such as Umberto Eco's novels... My god, what a pleasure these are!! Have you read The name of the Rose? And Foucault's Pendulum? They are MAGNIFICENT -if you hadn't had the pleasure, buy them right now!
I'm glad you added me to your friends -hope we share some great books!
    Cheers from Buenos Aires!

    Hi Sonja,
Many thanks for the invite, you are very welcome!!!! Your shelf looks really interesting, you have read about archetypes and casually I bought recently my first book about it (I’m waiting the shipping arrival). Am interested about this fact and wants to introduce myself on it, finding the balance (I’m a newbie!!). I’ve never done a Mandala, but I think I’ve to do too. Please, your experiences are really welcome.
Otherwise, I’m a manager into a little holding, and my wide reading interest came long time ago as a teenager. I’ll check better your shelf ASAP.
Nice to meet you! regards from Spain!!

Funny you should mention that book. An episode I won't forget, is a friend in West Bank, Ramallah, telling me off for not having read "Sofies Verden", cause it was his favourite book of all times, lifechanging. Haha! No I still haven't read it, but I got it and it's in my shelf.. And I read an inrerview with Gaarder and he sounded very bright, and enlightened in some way. So I must read it? :D

I have nothing against updating my friends list, especially since I love meeting new and interesting people. but tell me, why were you intrigued that I'm from Vienna ( a small correction: I am not from Vienna, I just live there for the time being and possibly for the rest of my adult life).
