I'm an instructor at a large Midwestern community college in the U.S. and very interested in women's studies (I teach an introductory course). As much as possible, I relish hours spent up at my 'treehouse' studio, where I enjoy collage, hooking wool rugs, drawing, writing, reading...and dreaming!

    a huge Christmastree

    and I'd put on it instead of gifts

    of all my friends. Those very close to me

    and you, Diana so far away. My forever friends and

    you always.

    I meet with some every day but you, I miss you

    so so much.

    Someone I always remember and I forgot a few from time to time.

    The reliable and the absent-minded. Friends of happy times

    and other of rough times. Those never again will I hurt

    and those that I have been hurt sometimes. Those I got to know deeply

    and those that I've just met once and judge by

    appearance.

    Those who owed me something and those that I owe them a lot.

    The humble friends and the VIP friends.

    That's the reason I name all of them, every friend in my whole life

    You, who will get this message and they who never get it.

    A tree with deep roots because your names will never be unroot out.

    A tree which will blossom next year for you all, with happiness, health, love and peace.

    I wish I could have gone to you so that I could have shared my hearfelt wishes of hope, generousity,

    Hi Sonja, I have learnt to see the world through the eyes of the words. I am from a small place called Bangladesh. It is first of all hard to find and second is books are expensive in this country. I will be happy if I could get some friends who could after reading send me some good books are show compassion to find and send books of my likeness. Thanks. "Fear of the Lord is the begining of wisdom." I do teach in a Business department of a Private University in Bangladeh, name American International University - Bangladesh.

    Hi Sonja,
    How are things in your part of the world? We have had hundreds of little earthquakes in my area for the past month. The biggest so far was a 4.6 and that was the only one that produced visible shaking at my home. All the rest are between 1.7 and 3.4. After reading the news about Myanmar and China, I am getting a little nervous. Anyway, how have you been?

    Oh, I've been meaning to read Sophie's world for yonks, but some other book always crops up. I think introducing philosophy to kids is so important - you cannot start thinking for yourself early enough.

    sorry sonja for replying so late!
    well yes i really enjoyed the book(thousand splendid sun)but at the same time was heart broken!as you know there are many afghani refugees in my country(iran)and before reading this book i had no idea what they have gone through especially women!
    unfortunately I have not seen the movie kite runner yet i prefer to read the book first since the books are always better than the films!

    Hi Sonja,
    I hope you will be able to find time to visit Barcelona. You'll have plenty of sightseeing... for instance, Gaudi’s Modernism architecture with its geometry of life-like stones is still one of the finest works of art. In no-wintyer moths you’re more likely to find people from all around the world drinking strong coffee and chatting in the many cafés along the seaside. I am very fond of my city LOL.
    About my read recommendation: there are a lot of spanish authors I love... Carlos Ruiz Zafón, "The Shadow of the Wind" - a suspenseful story; Julia Navarro, "The Bible of Clay" -historical fiction; Quim Monzó "The Magnitude of the Tragedy" -ironical and humorous read; Camilo José Cela who won the Nobel Prize of Literatur wrote travelling books very engrossing and especially about Galicia, in the North of Spain with its magical world, celtic music and charming huge woods. Another one who wrote about Barcelona is Ildefonso Falcones, "The cathedral of the Sea" - the plot depicts the building of a gothic cathedral in a working class suburb.
    I would find in my shelf another interesting spanish books for you.
    Let me know what do you think of this short-list. Have you any favorite book by American classical writers?
