I love to read, I have been reading since I was a little girl. my mom tells me that she would hear me reading Dr. Seuss books. I didn't know how to read yet but from hearing them read to me and looking at the pictures, I was reading them. I remember begging my mom to buy me Nancy Drew books when I was a Brownie. I was reading adult fiction by... more »

Hi! I love your avitar. Are those you two caique parrots? My husband have a friendly, human-loving, mischievous, opinionated sun conure and three cockatiels who are a flock unto themselves and distain humans. From what I have seen of caiques, they are rambuncous and loving. But, we only have room for the four we have.

    Anyway, Happy Holidays!!!!

Hello. My site indicates that I might know you, but obviously, that is unlikely. However, with the tag, Beth reads a lot, I couldn't resist sending you a note. With a shelf of 1613 books, I guess you do indeed read a lot. Maybe you will even check into my new novel! At any rate, take care, and nice to "meet" you.

Hi Beth, I haven't checked in to Shelfari for awhile but noticed you read The Road and thought it was ok. So many people loved or hated it- I was in the loved it category. I haven't read anything lately that really rang my bell... I'm reading The Lost Symbol right now. I'm on the wait list for two of Cathy Lamb's books but she seems to be pretty popular so it may be awhile before I get one. I'm really in need of a page-turner, I'm tired of so-so books! Well, my library is huge enough so I should be able to find something (and the library book sale is at the end of the month-yeah!). Hope to hear from you soon.

I hope you like FrugalReader. I think it really is more social than PBS and I like that it makes a detailed requirement for book conditions (none of those "gross books" you hate if you don't want them! LOL I spend my credits as fast as I get them :D

I have read Miss Julia and I did enjoy it, I haven't gotten around to reading any of the rest of the series yet though. I haven't read anything by Marshall Karp, I will take a look at The Rabbit Factory and see what I think. I would have to read it first anyway because I can't read a series out of order! LOL

Beth, no problem! I love to get notes.
All the ones you are getting I thought were great books. Are you already a fan of Fannie Flagg's books? Can't Wait... is fine as a stand alone but does mention characters from previous books.

The Book Theif- really moving story of an already troubled german girl observing the atrocities of what is happening to the Jewish people under the Nazi's in 1939 and how her love of books and the people she meets changes her. I really liked it but it was pretty dark-as you can imagine. The Book of Lost Things was dark as well and again starts out with a young boy, going through hard life changes at the beginning of WWII (outside London) but this story takes the boy into a really dark version of a fairy tale world. Definately not a kid's fairy tale book, but I found it original and I remembered it long after I read it.

I don't remember The Girls starting off slow for me but I have heard others say it did, but then then all the feedback I got back was they enjoyed the book in the end. It may not be for you though, I would just go with your gut. :D
Urban Fantasy, I can't tell the difference really between that term and "Paranormal", it's all vampires, werewolves, witches, fae.. like I said, not a lot I find that thrilling so far but really enjoyed Wicked Game, I have been a fan of Karen Marie Moning's Faefever series too. I'm really picky with these, I liked Wicked Game because it was different from many, it had humor and when it comes to this kind of thing I enjoy them better if they don't take themselves too seriously.
I hope you enjoy the three you added!
From your list of 14 books, most were library copies but I still own an ARC copy of
The Wednesday Sisters that I would be happy to send you. I also own a regular copy of The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox but I haven't gotten around to reading that one yet. If you want to wait I will can pick that one up and get it read so that I can send it to you too. If you decide yes, you can send me a private message with your mailing info.
Oh and I know you are a fan of mysteries, suspense and wanted to say Child 44 was one of my top 5 reads of last year. Another unique plot and his new sequel is just being released. I hope you get that one soon! If I had a copy I'd definately send it to you. Let me know what you think of these over time when you get them read. I will be curious as to which ones you really enjoyed and which ones you couldn't even finish, LOL. :D

Hi Beth! It has been forever since we chatted. I'm to blame, I went through such a dry spell where I just couldn't read no matter how I tried. I'm doing a little better but I went from reading 15 to 20 books a month to now I am lucky to read 5 or 6.

Anyway, I read just about any genre so thanks for the recommendation for A Little Light Magic, I will add it to my list! I was going to recommend The Help but I saw that you have already read it! Wasn't it fantastic?! I see on your "plan to read" list you have a few that I loved very much- Peace Like a River, The Art of Racing in the Rain, and The Girls.

I didn't see (i may have missed) Driving Sideways by Jess Riley- that was a fun read or Sweetsmoke by David Fuller-I loved it, my aunt loved it but it's one that got mixed reviews from other reviewers. Are you into the Urban Fantasy stuff? I don't care for a lot of it but I am trying to try give more of it a chance and I really enjoyed Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready.

I am curious which 14 books you're requesting. I may own some of them- if you want you can let me know I will check.

Hi Beth. We do have very similar taste in books. I have gotten a ton of my books from your shelf.

Girls started very slow for me. I almost gave up on it. Half way through I started getting really into it, so try and stick with it.
Glass Castle also started slow for me, but quickly became a page turner. Her account of her dysfunctional family was shocking, moving and horrifying all in one.
The Saving Graces is one of my all time faves. A awesome touching story of four friends and how a injured dog brought them all together.
Summer Sisters is another wonderful story of two girls and how there friendship evolves over the years. It took me back to my own childhood summers. I think you'll like it.
Ya Ya again a great southern tale of friends and family. Way better than the movie.
Jester was a surprisingly great read for me. I think it's Patterson's only historical fiction. It didn't suck me in like some of his other books but is a worth while read.
Sharp Objects is a dark book. Not a good choice if you are looking for a light happy read. That being said it's well written and a suspenseful story.
AHEB is probably my least favorite of the books. It was good but kind of uninspiring. I'd read the others first.
True Evil is my favorite Iles book. I stayed up all night finishing this book. The characters, plot, and twists and turns make for a fantastic thriller.
Garden Spells is another quick light read. It's full of quirky characters, a little magic and a sweet romance.
Fire Fly Lane got me hooked on Kristen Hannah. I highly recommend it.
Art of Racing in the Rain is so heart warming and touching. The ending was maybe my favorite ending of all time. Be warned, tissues required ; )

As for Preston and Child The Relic is the first book in their Pendergast series so I'd start there.

I hope this helps and thank you for asking my opinion, that's quite a compliment.

    What books wold you recommend?

Good to hear your thoughts on A Little Light Magic! I am currently writing a review for AAR and must wait to read your review once mine is done. But I will be most interested to compare our thoughts. I agree that is was light, fun, and romantic and I am still thinking about it - it is sticking with me and I wish it were still here for me to keep reading.
Oh - and I think you are absolutely right with the thoughts of more Santangelos in the future. I easily saw 3 future heroes and one future heroine. How about you?
