Dear Bernie: I'm with you 100%. I'm trying to sell my debut novel, and I use Shelfari, Goodreads, MySpace to reach people. In fact, my publisher encourages it. For the most part, the response is okay. I've only had one negative reply. People just don't understand how competitive the book market is and how little pormotion thepublishing companies do. Authors have to self-promote. Period. I will certainly look for your book. I hope you will look for mine, which I will promote below. Also, be on the lookout for a novel by fellow Aussie Ivana Hruba. We are both being published by Kunati Books. Here';s the blurb on my novel:
HUNTING THE KING is a fast-paced page-turner that follows archaeologist Molly O'Dwyer into war torn Iraq in search of the remains of Jesus. ForeWord Magazine says: "Fans of intellectual thrillers and historical fiction will find a worthy new voice in Clenott. His best invention may be Molly O’Dwyer, a genuinely likeable heroine who more than holds her own in a man’s world. An ambitious scientist, she is also an observant Catholic whose heart and mind don’t always agree. Given such an auspicious start, the sequel can't come too soon."

While the book isn't available until April, you can find it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kunati Books and other googleable sites. You won't be disappointed.

To get a good sense of how exciting the novel is check out the heartpounding trailer for the book at http://www.kunati.books/hunting-the-king-peter-clenott/. Or you can view it on YouTube or my web site at www.peterclenott.com. Let me know what you think. And I would be delighted to be your Shelfari friend.Thanks.

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn

Yes Mais was a terrific talent and Bra Man (Brother Man) is a exceptional read. Glad to know that you liked it. Ralph De Boissiere who wrote Rum and Coca Cola lived in Australia while writing his West Indian works. Have you ever read anything by him?

Hey, you don't have to be a "somebody" for me to take you on as a client. :) You just need 1) to have a really well-written book; 2) a really well-written book that I can SELL; and 3) I have to have the hours in the day to sell your really well-written book. :)

    Hi Bernie.

    www.theliterati.net is our site.

www.literati.net (without "the" is someone else). Our web guru is doing work on the site but you should still get a little info from it. It should be up and running 100% by the end of next week.

Bernie, you have the same problems over there that exist here in the good old U.S. of A. Can't get attention without an agent, can't get an agent without attention. It is a Catch 22 here too! Our Web site is under construction at the moment and we're not taking any new authors at the moment (we're slammed with work), but email me something through my Web site and I'll give it a look. We're hoping to have some openings for new authors in about six months (but I suspect you won't - and SHOULDN'T wait that long!!) Ang

    Hi Bernie,
We could probably discuss these subjects in the "Newsroom" group itself or extend the scope of the group to include these issues. What do you say? There are some journalists in the group who are quite proactive. Please join the "Newsroom".
