    The Poisoned Apple

    by Madison Paine
    • Rated 5 stars

Loved it, loved it, loved it! As a teacher who has temporarily “hung up her gloves”, I could relate to many of the trials and tribulations that Mason Beehinder, or Lefty, faced in her apple cultivating career. So many of the interactions recounted by Lefty were familiar, memories that brought both teary eyes and bursts of loud laughter. I have spent many hours pondering and discussing the problems I see with the current educational system, reading authors such as John Holt and John Taylor Gatto. Ms. Paine's The Poisoned Apple is a powerful literary addition to the discussion on the state of education today, a quick and engaging tale that is sure to invite others into the discussion and prompt some into action.

Once again, the only thing that slowed down my reading of Ms. Grant's story is my computer. (Oh, to have a Kindle! Or a better office chair.) The second half of the story being particularly page-turning! Having read both Spellbound and Redemption prior to Betrayal, I enjoyed reconnecting with familiar characters – especially Raven, Bri, and Adam – and their adventures through life and love, like friends sharing secrets from their past. Secrets that readers can empathize with – greed, family, duels, betrayals, love affairs, and more. Betrayal may be a bit “darker” than Ms. Grant's other romances, but her story of love and forgiveness wins out in the end. I look forward to meeting some of the characters again in Deception and am eager to find out what Lord Greville's love life has in store for him.

It took me a few weeks to find the time to sit down and give my full attention to this e-book, but when I did, I finished Redemption in one afternoon! Jaimey Grant has once again provided her readers with a captivating story - one of love, intrigue, scandal, and of course, redemption. As in Spellbound, it was the characters that hooked me from the first few pages. Darius with his disdain for the expectations of Society, his twin Miles who always does what is proper, Jenny who yearns to be herself despite what is expected of “the gentler sex”, and her twin Gwen do battle with their innermost desires, former mistakes, family expectations, and their strong senses of pride and honor as they discover their true feelings for themselves and for each other. And as in all battles - whether of the heart, head, or person - there are injuries. But there are small victories along the way, and as Ms. Grant promised, the book does have a happy ending – just expect a few tears too.

New to the genre of regency romance, I was unsure what to expect from Spellbound, but whatever I expected, it proved to be an interesting and entertaining read! As the story unfolds, Ms. Grant drops tantalizing tidbits about the characters and their pasts that keep you turning the pages wanting to know more. What are Raven's past indiscretions? What is behind the duke's uneasiness with the lake? And what is Lord Greydon hiding? Raven and Tristan at once endear themselves to the readers who are sure to cheer them on as they struggle to come to terms with their past as they try to plan their future. Along the way, the author tackles engaging issues such as morality, sexuality, and familial responsibility. Spellbound is sure to keep readers spellbound to the very end!
