I am working on "Folly Beach" a novel along the lines of "As I Lay Dying" only substitute "Passed-out from an alcoholic shopping spree" for "Dying"... wait, I don't know. May be "Folly Beach" is more like "The Ice Storm" by Rick Moody only set in Charleston, South Carolina during May. So, there's no ice per se.

I live in the eastern most part of Ohio, near the Point Of Beginning, the spot where the midwest begins. I've added Tiger In A Trance to my TBR list. Thanks for the heads up on it.

    Ben,
It only took six months but I finally read Out Stealing Horses and The Brief Wonderous Life Of Oscar Wao. I read Out Stealing Horses a few months back. The hold up on Oscar Wao was the fact that while I prefer to own my books I am also cheap ans was waiting for it to come out in paperback. I must admit that the Out Stealing Horses didn't do much for me but I really enjoyed Oscar Wao. I enjoyed Oscar's nerdishness and the footnotes on the DR's history. Please feel free to make more suggestions as I am in the process of rebuilding my TBR pile.

    Hey Ben,
How's it going? Just re-read some of our exchanges in "The Novel Writing Experience." We had some good conversations over there. Hope the writing continues to go well and you are busy.
    Regards
    Stuart

I really enjoyed the Zevon book. I've been of fan of his for years so reading this was a must for me. I liked the way it was written, as a series of memories from the people around him, musicians, writers, family and friends. I knew that he was a raging alcoholic for years but it was eye opening to see how much of an a** he was. All in all a very honest look at the man.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'd been kicking around the idea of reading Tree Of Smoke for awhile and on the strength of your recommendation I finally did read it. I found it to be a very good book. I already read After Dark, I think I liked it more than most Shelfarians. I have placed Out Stealing Horses and The Brief Wonderous Life Of Oscar Wao on my list of books to buy, with Out Stealing Horses moved to the top of the list. Thanks

I am rebuilding my depleted TBR pile, and since I find so many of the books on your shelf interesting, I was wondering, what were the best books you read in 2007 and what are you planning on reading in'08?

UVa is my alma mater, so I appreciate the kudos to their art department. Richmond is a perfect fit for me. Can I ask why (oh why oh why) you are in Ogden at the moment?
