Benjamin

Benjamin

Ben was forced to read at a very young age, and the experience has granted him years of happy hours in the library. He reads, on average, around 5 books at a time. When overwhelmed with life, he can be found looking for optimism in the children's section of Barnes and Noble or Borders.

This book kept me up for more late nights than most Stephen King novels.... well written historical thriller with a look at the early learnings of psychological profiling and serial killers. Don't start it if you have to go in to work the next day!

One of the most insightful and revolutionary reads of my year. Having grown up in church, Munroe's writing is so refreshing and brought be back to a new sense of hope and faith, beyond the empire-building 'churchianity' that I've gotten so used to. Can't recommend it highly enough....

Cool concept, great stories. Amazing art from those that can't see... so neat to see the creative process from folks that are working in a medium they can't learn through traditional means. In a way, it's like being deaf and working to become a musician.... such purity in their pictures because they haven't learned the 'rules' that define good photographs.

A horribly disturbing read, with a bizarre focus on munchkin sex. I choked my way through it. I get what he was going for, but seriously, it wasn't worth the time.

I read this book to get a little more informed about the issue of SRA (satanic ritual abuse). I appreciated the first -hand accounts and experiences, but don't know that I came away with a firmer opinion on the scope of SRA cases, or a clear way of identifying and working with SRA survivors in counselling. It's not a handbook, but it's definitely worth reading if you have an interest in the subject or work in the field.

Interesting look at both the reasons some people survive catastrophic circumstances, while others lose their lives in much less dangerous circumstances. Started slow, but moved quicker after the first couple chapters.

Pretty predictable plot lines, not the most interesting characters. I realized about 45 pages from the end that there isn't a single 4-letter word in the whole book, and while I appreciate North's attempt at creating 'moral' literature, it sure took away from the realism of the story. Don't bother reading this one...

I'm always impressed with Arthur Burk's insights into scripture, and his practical approach to daily life, prayer, and community, and this book was no exception! Great stuff, well worth reading and digesting multiple times...
