I think that each book that I read leaves an enduring image in my mind. I am reminded of the Poisonwood Bible whenever I look at pumpkin creepers in full bloom.

I loved this book as a child way back in the 80s. Couldnt bring myself to revisit it till a month ago. It is in my opinion the best and the most simple retelling of the epic. There are other good ones-Kisari Mohan Ganguli, Kamala Subramanium, and recently Ramesh Menon but Rajaji's version stands apart. That inspite of the fact that it was written by an othodox Brahmin in the 40s-50s.
