I'm a total book junkie, DPI grad, and one of the reviewers at www.bookbitch.com. I rarely come across books that I don't like and, as a result, will read almost anything!

  • The Ninth Circle

    The Ninth Circle

    by Alex Bell
    • Rated 3 stars

An interesting story with a twist that readers definitely won't see coming.

Gabriel Anteus wakes stuck to the floor in a pool of his own blood. He has no memory of anything prior to waking and becomes determined to uncover his past.

I liked all of the elements of this book, but I think the circumstances under which I read it affected my enjoyment of it.

A novelization of a short story previously published in Writers Forum and Greer's own collection of short fiction, Isolation and Other Stories.

An engaging tale of the trials of a Montana ranch in the early 90s. Dealing with the changing times, economy, and encroaching mining activities is taxing for the Darleys, but the arrival of Arcus Witherspoon, a man searching for his own past, heralds change and possibly a new beginning.

Not a true sequel, but a companion to 2006's Breeding Ground.

London has become infested with giant spiders. As a gang lord expands his empire, two groups of kids try to escape the terror that their city has become.

Fun stuff! Werewolves and vampires are part of common society in Victorian London, but someone has been turning new vamps and not explaining the rules. When Miss Alexia Tarabotti is attacked by one of these vamps, she accidentally kills him while defending herself. Alexia is a preternatural and can essentially cancel out paranormal powers when she comes into contact with the being. That said, folks are starting to talk about her incident with the young vamp.

A witty and funny paranormal mystery with a touch of steampunk. Great combination.

Fifth in the Chief Inspector Gamache series. Wonderful mystery just outside the boundaries of cozy.

This one reads like a stand-alone, so if you're like me and you haven't read the series yet, this is a great place to start.

When the body of an unidentified man is discovered in the Three Pines bistro, Gamache and his team return to the small town to investigate. Olivier, the bistro owner, has been keeping secrets, including the fact that he alone knows the identity of the dead man. But others in town are also keeping secrets and it's up to Gamache to tease them out and solve the crime.

First in a new paranormal romance/fantasy trilogy. After humans banish magic folk to the underground, the factions split into the Darkworld and the Lightworld. Ayla, a half-human/half-faery assassin is on an assignment in the Darkworld when she meets Malachai, a Death Angel. One touch is enough to make Malachai mortal, his own kind leaving him for dead in the underground tunnels. At first, he is determined to make Ayla pay, but this unlikely pair finds themselves undeniably attracted to one another in spite of the possible consequences.

A fun read. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.

When Mel Snow met the magician, Toby Warring, she didn't expect that two days later she would be his wife. Toby was not an illusionist, he was a real magician. But Toby bears emotional scars thanks to his abilities. His final assistant disappeared without a trace and Toby has been on guard with his magic ever since.

A sweet and magical tale of romance.

  • Perfect Little Ladies

Fun, quick, and light chick-litty read about best friends banding together in a crisis.

Elinor Young is the perfect Washington wife--at least that's what everyone thinks, until she's forced to admit that she's been having an affair and now someone is blackmailing her. She runs to her friends and her twin sister for help in a caper that will end with all of their secrets revealed.

An historical tale that has a bit of everything -- mystery, romance, and science. Daniel Connor has just arrived in Paris from Scotland. Here he will apprentice under the famous M. Cuvier, a position that will lead to Daniel's dreams come true. But as Daniel rides into town, he lets his guard slip and falls asleep. When he wakes, he finds that all of his notes, his letters of introduction, and priceless fossils that were to be delivered to Cuvier have been stolen. All is lost unless Daniel can recover his possessions.

A chilling fable for adults, Isis is wonderfully creepy all by itself and is a great addition to the Harrow House "series." Now reprinted with beautifully macabre illustrations by Glenn Chadbourne.
