I'm a total book junkie, DPI grad, and one of the reviewers at www.bookbitch.com. I rarely come across books that I don't like and, as a result, will read almost anything!

  • Murder on the Cliffs: A Daphne du Maurier Mystery (Daphne du Maurier Mysteries)
    • Rated 4 stars

An interesting mystery starring Daphne du Maurier as sleuth. Good stuff! Readers who enjoy du Maurier's work, especially Rebecca, will appreciate seeing the author as the character in Joanna Challis's debut mystery.

While on vacation Daphne du Maurier, aspiring writer, stumbles upon the body of a dead girl. Curiosity piqued, Daphne decides that she must be part of the investigation and proceeds to learn all she can about the various players in hopes of solving the case.

Wow! Under the Dome moves incredibly quickly and takes readers on a total roller-coaster of reading!

Dale Barbara was on his way out. He'd had enough of Chester's Mill and was finally going to move on when the dome came down. Just seconds later, a plane crashed into one side. Cars smash into the other and soon, everyone knows about the clear barrier that now separates Chester's Mill from the outside world. Who put it there and why are unknown. Surviving inside has become every man for himself -- almost.

An historical mystery with multiple threads to follow. Makes for an interesting read, but also one that you literally can't look away from for one minute or you might get lost.

Sets up nicely for book two, The Red Velvet Turnshoe.

I think I've already read somewhere that someone compared this book to Cube meets Running Man. Very much so! Great teen read with a killer ending and I can't wait to see what will happen next.

My first historical romance. It was ok, I wasn't totally blown away. Just not sure it's for me.

  • The Archangel Project
    • Rated 4 stars

Government conspiracies and remote viewing -- all based on documented cases, according to the authors.

October "Tobie" Guinness didn't know that her involvement in a remote viewing project at Tulane would result in catastrophic results. Something Tobie saw in one of her sessions has made the project a target for elimination. Now if only she can figure out what it all means before it's too late.

    Definitely a page turner!

  • The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart
    • Rated 4 stars

A crazy sort-of adventure story featuring two nasty brothers with a penchant for killing first and not asking questions later. They meet monsters, witches, bandits, and all other sorts on their journey, pillaging and grave robbing all along the way.

Fun stuff, but definitely not for more innocent readers.

The first in the Emma Streat series is a surprisingly different read than one would initially expect.

Emma's husband had been rather jumpy lately, and after a trip to London that is preceded by one of his office's visitors being murdered in an airport, Emma and hubby return home only for him to be murdered. It appears initially to be a hit-and-run accident, but a note regarding one of his coworkers prompts Emma to dig into his death. What she finds is a web of intrigue involving spies, dangerous weapons developments, and state secrets.

  • Magic to the Bone
    • Rated 3 stars

Alllie Beckstrom is a Hound -- someone responsible for tracking down and identifying the illegal offloading of magic. When a job leads her straight to her father, a prominent figure who has made a business out of magic, she soon finds herself being hunted and threatened. And when her father ends up dead, with her own signature pointing a finger as her as the killer, Allie knows that she will have to use all of the power available to her to figure out what is going on.

An ok read. I think the follow-up titles in the series will really be great, but Magic to the Bone had a lot of information to absorb as the first in a story that has some very different things going on as compared to other urban fantasy titles out there. An interesting read.

    Stuff to Spy For

    by Don Bruns
    • Rated 3 stars

Skip and James are back in this third outing of the Stuff series. This time, Skip has a huge contract installing a new security system with a local company -- a legit job. Or not. The woman who hires Skip is having an affair with her boss and wants him to be her fake boyfriend for the sake of the man's wife. She promises him a huge bonus on top of his portion of the cost to install the system. How could he say no?

Like all of Skip and James's schemes, nothing goes as planned. Funny and light.
