I'm a high school English teacher currently living in London, England. Before moving to London I lived in Toronto for six years, and I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. Hi! What a reading list! I stumbled across your page when I was looking for reviews on Timothy Findlay books. Specifically Telling of Lies and The Last of the Crazy People. I see you've read both. I'm going to Cuba for a couple weeks, have packed several books, and want to take 1 Findley --- which one you would recommend?
    (I ask you b/c we seem to have similar tastes)

    Thanks, Susan

    Hi, I noticed that you added Ghostwritten. Have you read Mitchell's other books: Cloud Atlas and Black Swan Green? I love both of them and would rank them above Ghostwritten.
    Just a Monday thought.

    Thanks for accepting the invitation. Hope you'll be doing the desired for our group "quotes and Characters" You are really welcome!
    your shelf is amazing pot pourri of all sorts of books. I've been discussing "Gravity's Rainbow " with reference to postmodernism in my modern fiction class. But I added it to my shelf after spotting it on your shelf. Thanks for this reminder.

    the Paradox Of Our Age

    We have bigger houses but smaller families;

    more conveniences, but less time.

    We have more degrees but less sense;

    more knowledge but less judgment;

    more experts, but more problems;

    more medicines but less healthiness.

    We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,

    but have trouble in crossing the street to meet our new neighbour.

    We built more computers to hold more copies than ever,

    But have less real communication;

    We have become long on quantity,

    but short on quality.

    These are times of fast foods but slow digestion;

    Tall mean but short characters;

    Steep profits but shallow relationships.

    It’s a time when there is much in the window

    But nothing in the room.

    I honestly can't remember where she lives. She has told me several times. I know that both she and her husband have to take the train into London, but it is a very short distance. She likes it, but she does get very homesick.
