I got hooked on Ludlum in the 1970s and read almost all of his early books. I stopped reading Ludlum when I was reading one of his books (regretfully, I forget the title) that was definitely coul not have been written by him, but by a "ghost writer". The beginning was his, but after the beginning it was terrible and I couldn't finish the book. I haven't read any Ludlum since then.

After reading this book, a friend of mine sent "While Europe Slept", a must read. Europe is in much more peril because of their VERY liberal immigration/refugee policies, as well as their OVERLY PC policies. If you noticed the riots that were reported in Paris a little while ago, none of the press reports mentioned that the "youths" were Muslim youths, just "youths". Muslims in Europe do not integrate with their "adoptive" country. Islam first, even though they have been accepted as refugees/immigrants in their adoptive country.

An interesting fact about U.S. Muslims is that a great percentage of them are African-Americans that converted in prison. I don't know how to interpret that, but it's a fact.

I read this book some years ago. My first Clavell novel was "King Rat" which I read in the 1960s. I eventually read Noble House, Taipan, GaiJin, and Whirlwind. If you read these books you will find links although the books take place in different periods of time. "King Rat" amd "Shogun" were made into a movie and a mini TV series, respectively. Both were well done. However, the movie version of Tai-Pan with Brian Brown was terrible. It was disjointed with no real story line.

Shogun is one of a series of James Clavell's books that have links even though they were written decades apart and about different periods of time. "Shogun" has links to "King Rat", "Gai-Jin", and "Noble House".

I first read this book when it first came out and have gone through it again from time to time. The main thrust of the book is that a person will go up the ladder and finally reach his/her level of incomptency. Example: Number one salesman for years gets promoted to Regional Sales Mgr and falls on his face.
