I am mostly reading 3 genre of books right now: (1) Sci-fi, (2) Counseling, and (3) Spiritual, primarily Christian books. I read about 5 or 6 books at a time but always have one or two of each genre going on at once. I hope to keep a review going, of the books I've finished reading, here so I can remember what I thought :P Feel free to drop... more »

It had surprising philosophical depth in hitting the big questions of life: what are we here for? Who, or what, is a sentient being? And what is the real point of war? I had trouble getting into the first 50 pages of the book but then it was a real page turner.

  • So You're Going to Be a Dad

A very humorous, encouraging, heart-warming and somewhat eye opening book. "So You're Going to Be a Dad" is a quick read, but offers some insight into what pregnancy, birth, and adjusting to having a new person in the home is like. This book also seemed more "family values" oriented then other books I browsed through. The author readily directs men to step up, become fathers, get involved and encourages us to keep trying and going at it. I would suggest this book for anyone who is about to have a baby, or has an infant already (though they wouldn't prolly have the time to read it, lol).

  • The Five Love Languages

This is one of the very few books that I think every single person should read. It speaks to the challenge for individuals to love and to seek out their mate's style of being loved. I find that it's easy to transfer the basic principles into different types of relationships, which yields the ability to take care of, appreciate, and show love to the many people in my life -- which as a Christian is something I'm striving to do.

Another more action packed novel in the Shadow series. Card still manages to integrate his philosophy and personal beliefs into this novel but manages to keep the pace moving along and keep you on the "edge of your seat" wondering what will happen next. If you enjoyed "Ender's Game" and "Ender's Shadow" then you will definitely enjoy this book as well. Cheers!

Another chain in the link of Vatta's War. This was a fun book that continues to develop characters, bring in some new ones, and progress along the storyline of the Vatta saga. This book marks a definite change in the balance of power in the Vatta universe and it will be fun to see what adventures the next book takes us on. A fun read.

  • Family Healing

Minuchin's experiences as a person and then a therapist allow him to write a rich text on family healing. He addresses, in this book, some of the recurring problematic family dynamics we see in our society today and tells of both victories and defeats in his practice. I found myself wrapped up in his storytelling, moved to both laughter and tears at times. As I move on in my social work career, possibly towards family and couples therapy, this book gripped me and resonated personally with what I'd like to be able to do as a therapist some day. It was truly inspirational and I'd recommend it to anyone in the social work field and the therapy field as well.

The Boba Fett books are getting better. I liked this one more than the past two ones. This story is intriguing and at times difficult to read as you watch young Boba fall for one trap after the next...oh well, some day he'll learn and then he'll be able to fly out of a sarlacc pit instead of face utter doom in the belly, being digested over a thousand years, well after he's starved to death...

The Boba books continue to get better and better. An easy and quick read. This book is well enough written that it keeps me interested and amazed The ending happened so fast that I was amazed it was all crammed into about 10 pages but the author did it, and pulled it off well,
