I am a 38 year old, happily married woman who enjoys the simple things in life & loves to laugh. I've had a passion for reading my entire life. I rarely went anywhere without a book as a child, and still always have at least one by my side. I studied Social Service & Mental Health in college, and am fascinated by people; how they view themselves... more »

3 1/2 stars. A mother is lost after getting separated from her husband at a subway station on a visit to see their children in Seoul. Her family's search for her triggers many memories (and secrets) about her life from her children and husband. The father's chapter is particularly insightful in my opinion.

2 1/2 stars. Young adult story about 2 kids, Bryce and Juli. The story is told by both of them, and thus is slightly repetitive at times. There wasn't a lot of substance to the story in my opinion, but it was a quick read.

If you haven't read Divergent, this book won't make much sense to you. If you have, though, I don't think you will be disappointed. No, it wasn't as good as Divergent in my opinion, but it was just as fast paced, with many twists and turns. The only problem is the ending will make you want to read the third book in the series right away, and I have to wait too long for it to come out! ACK!

A great book. Set at the end of WWII in Mississppi, it shows the horror of the Jim Crow South.

3 1/2 stars. I enjoyed many parts of this novel, but sometimes I felt like there were characters and plot lines that weren't needed, and were just filler. Not a perfect novel, but still a good read.

A sad, haunting novel set in North Carolina during World War I. I really enjoyed the novel, but wish there had been a different outcome.

Although this novel made me both sad and angry at times, it did keep my attention throughout, and I felt as though I learned at lot.

What an excellent novel! The story is told from the perspective of two characters... Lativia, a white indentured servent, and Belle, the mulatto slave daughter of the plantation's owner, who works in the kitchen house. I can't put into words just how good this book is. I actually cried when the book was over because I didn't want it to end. Highly recommended!

I loved the Good Earth and couldn't wait to read it's sequel, Sons, but I was slightly disappointed. It follows Wang Lung's family following his death, and I couldn't help but think that he would also be disappointed with how his sons behaved once he was gone. I must say, however, that it left me with hope for the next book, and I look forward to reading it soon.

The story of a young boy and two friends that he makes while travelling on a ship from Ceylon to London in the 1950's. The characters they meet on board are diverse and interesting, and the story goes back and forth a bit into the future as we find out what happened to them after their adventures on the ship came to an end.
