    I see a Neil Stephenson book on your 'to read' shelf. I'd bet you'd like Cryptonomicon as you're a techie. What got me started with him was 'In the beginning... was the command line" a great, brief book. I have them should you want to borrow.

    YES! Read "Good Omens"! It's humor AND fantasy, both authors are EXCELLENT.
    You will not regret a single second spent reading this book. I read it...blimey, over ten years ago, and still occasionally have it bubble up in my thoughts.

    If you are interested in history/biography, I highly recommend "The Great Improvisation" by Stacy Schiff. It is the story of Benhamin Franklin and his time in France at the onset of the Revolutionary War. Also give Jeff Shaara's "the Rising Tide" a look. You will not be disappointed.
