I notice we share interest in some of the same books! I have just joined Shelfari! I am always looking for a new friend who loves books! My name is Larry Montello, and I live in Marshall, Minnesota. I just moved back here about ten months ago from Arizona! I was born in Montclair, New Jersey. My ethnic heritage is Italian, Scot, Irish, German, Canadian, and God knows what else. I have eight children, all from my marriage to Dawn, that ended over six years ago. Only three of my children live in Minnesota at the present time, (a couple of hours away from here),, but I talk to all of them frequently on the phone and they often visit. In my life I have lived in 14 different US states and traveled in 48. I have also traveled quite a lot in Canada, and some in Mexico. No where else YET! In the past I have been, among other things, a school teacher, small business owner, manager, waiter, hospital technician, salesman, and delivery driver. Now I have an overnight job at Walmart, but who knows how long that will last! I have always been a inquisitive and curious person, which explains my university degrees. They are in geography, history, political science and English Literature. I primarily went to universities to LEARN things not just to pursue career or financial goals. Oh well! Probably does not make much sense to a lot of people. I have a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Among my interests are: history, geography, cultures, music, literature, art, science, railroads, nature and wildlife. Among my hobbies are: reading, listening to music, watching movies, taking care of my pets, collecting stamps, postcards, books, sports memorabilia, and maps. I love animals and have quite a number, including: a dog, (Jack), two cats,(Lilly and Siggy), three cockateils, a tortoises, and eight water turtles. Hopefully your new friend, Larry

Sheesh, a friend invites me to join and look who's here with the most books! Why am I not surprised. You'd think by now there'd be a pipe directly between Dudley's and your place. I've forgotten all about coastally trapped Kelvin waves, but boy do I remember the pitchers of Shiner (well...maybe not all of them).

    Greetings baum,
I've been neglecting my friends lately. Most of my time has been consumed with writing and reading. I'm helping a young man write his biography, plus I have my own work.

Right now I'm reading a book by Patricia Cornwell entitled, "Hornet's Nest." I'm a bit disappointed in the author. The book isn't part of the Kay Scarpetta series, which are always good reads. In this book the author spends far too much time on the sub-plots and ignores the main plot pertaining to the seriel killer. My next read will be about Richard Nixon and his sordid life. Looking forward to that!

How are you, and what are you reading now?
    Cheers

I am interested in your experience with the functioning of the site, especially when they are "updating to improve". This past couple of days I have had my shelve really disrupted. The number of books/tags changing. My tags not working.....Have you?

I love College Station. I am a graduate of A&M. : ) If you think that's the middle of no where you should visit little Clute, TX. That's where I live now. I would give anything to move back to the happening town that is College Station...as compared to Clute that is. On another note...how on earth do you find the time to read that many books?!

    Greetings baum,
I am enlisting the help of all my friends to make a suggestion to Shelfari. I would like Shelfari to allow us to tag the books on our reading list just as we do on our shelf. I use the reading list to keep track of books I own but haven't yet read. Tagging the books would allow us to see at a glance what books we own but haven't yet read, and it would prevent us from purchasing a duplicate book. If you think this is a good idea, will you send Shelfari a suggestion for it? If enough of us ask for this, perhaps Shelfari will make it happen.

    Greetings baum,
What are you up to? I haven't heard from you for awhile. I hope all is well. What are you reading? Are most of your books still in storage? My husband is in the process of building my bookshelves to the ceiling. I'm going to glue two bookshelves back to back and put it in my bedroom where I now have a television and stand. I haven't watched the television for almost two years! My little niece will enjoy it more than I do! LOL

I notice that you have Guillermo Cabrera Infante on your shelf. Have you read Three Trapped Tigers? I read it in a Latin America Lit class in college, and its one of the most fascinating books-–the way he plays with language and bends the rules... awesome stuff

    Hi baum,
Just checking in. How are you doing? What are you reading? I'm still enraptured by the Native American history. My current read is The Frontiersman by Stephan Allan whose works I've been praising everywhere on Shelfari. LOL Someone will soon tell me enough is enough!

Okay I'm on a Book Diet. My house is bursting and I just took a huge box to the second hand book store (left with only 1) and still have a trunkful to take to school for the school fair. I still have shelves crammed in my bedroom, den, playroom etc. What does a thousand books look like? WG

    Greetings baum,
Wow moving over four thousand books is back breaking. When I had a little over one thousand my husband begged me to thin the shelves before we moved here to the Pocono's. Not possible. If I like a book I MUST own it, for keeps (see profile) Before we married I told Bruce that if my books ever became too numerous to contain within our home then the furniture would have to go. So far we have furniture!
    Cheers to your Move!
