I'm a former English teacher who taught students reading, writing, and critical thinking skills by focusing media literacy, popular cultural and controversial issues that impacted their lives and community. I taught through a student-centered approach, guided by the theories and practices of teachers like Paulo Friere, Henry Giroux, Nancie Atwell, Neil Postman, Malcolom X, Martin Luther King, Kwame Nkrumah, Toni Morrison, bell hooks, and many, many other critical thinkers and writers.
However, now I'm pursuing a career in wedding photography, with a vision for taking a much more artful and aesthetic approach to the craft. I have lots to learn, but I think photography is a wonderful art form in which I'll spend the rest of my life learning and exploring. I love making people happy with photos.
In addition to being a father, husband, teacher and photographer, I'm a devoted Apple/Mac user and I like everything that Web 2.0 is doing to change the net and help build all kinds of communication between different people in different places.
Finally, I'm an intellectual who loves to discuss politics, religion, science, and culture. Shefari and LibraryThing, thus, are records of my reading habit and thoughts.
