This second book is definatley better than the first one. The characters are developed a bit more and new "special" characters are introduced.

One thing I didn't really like is how she keeps repeating things over again. I understand that sometimes these types of books are written so that someone who doesn't start out at Book 1 can still understand what's going on, but, for instance, she mentions how she's really good at controlling her facial movents a bagillion times in this book along, not to mention the thousand other times it is mentioned in the previous book. It is minor, but it bugs me.

Otherwise I enjoyed this. in this one Sookie is hired out to the Vamps of Dallas to use here telepathic abilities to find a missing Vamp. She also finds a dead body in Andy Bellefleur's car that was left at the bar overnight. It is the body of the cook there, Lafeyette. She ends up almost getting abducted at the airport and then she is tricked by a Temple of the Sun (similar to the KKK) traitor. He is a man who is dating a vamp, but the Sun called him to see if he would help them out and since he was upset with his woman, he said yes and lead Sookie there. They were captured and put in the bomb shelter along with the missing Vamp. Another Vampire, who wanted to atone for his misdeads and "meet the sun", Godfrey helped her to escape and stopped her from being raped. She sent a telepathic message to Barry the Bell hop at the hotel to get Bill when he woke up. She also got help from the Shapshifters of Dallas who had their eye on the Temple of the Sun folks. She was then ticked at Bill and just wanted to be with humans for awhlie, so she left and drove to the airport and then flew home.

She ends up getting back together with Bill after a long while and after he's been seen around with Portia Bellefleur. Portia was just trying to get invited to the "sex party" to see if she could find out framed her brother. Sookie got invited instead and she took Eric along with her. She read people's minds and found out who it was, but then when they went to leave, a drunken Andy Bellefleur popped out of the woods wanted Sookie to read the people's minds to see who did it. Then she heard Sam/Dean (the boss/shapshifter) and then she realized that the Maenad was there. The Maenad killed almost everyone, except for Eggs and Andy, and Bill, Eric and Sookie and Trudi. Most of their minds got erased.

At the end of the book, Andy's grandmother sent Sookie a cake to thank her for what she did. In mentioning the name Bill got white(er) and asked Sookie to get his family Bible. She did and they discovered that Andy is Bill's Great-great-great grandson. I loved that family touch.

Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress at Marlotte's bar in Bon Temps, LA. She is a telepath. she used to this of it as a diability, as she has to work very hard to keep everyone else's thoughts out of her head, but now, since Vampires have "come out of the coffin" and she's dating one, Bill (who lives across the dirt road and cemetery from her).

Vampires are now legally recognized and they've created a synthetic blood for them to drink, but vampires still like to fee on humans.

Someone in Bon Temps is killing waitresses that seem to like vampires and "fang banging." Sookie's grandmother gets killed when she walks in on an attack that was meant for Sookie. Bill arranges for Sookie to be looked after while he is out of town. (The vampires looking to become more blended in society were looking for a way to get what they want out of others without killing and torturing, so they want to use Sookie's ability to read people's minds. Bill is out trying to make their ranking in society a little better, by running an area) However she gets attacked, but since she has had vampire blood a few times she is a little stronger and faster than she normally would have been. She gets into the mind of the killer and finds out that it is her friend's boyfriend and her brother's best friend. She survives the attack and gets back on with her life.

Also, Sookie learns that her boss Sam, is a shapshifter.

    - I'll finish the series (unless it gets really terrible) since I started it, but I just don't think i'm one for Harris' writing style. Also, I'm not really for the love scenes. I like historical romance, but not supernatural?

I really loved this book. It turned out to be better than I thought, even when I was halfway through it. But how to explain it...?

    *spoilers*

there are the Souls, they originated from The Origin. They wanted to take over so they capture humans and insert the silver, spider like souls into the human hosts. (on a side note, this makes me wonder how did the first insertion occur?) The souls can see the Host's memories, but the Host usually dies out. But Wanderer's, Melanie, didn't. Melanie is strong and her Soul doesn't want other Souls to find out that she can't control her Host and make her go away, so she runs. She goes where Melanie takes her and they end up finding the humans that Melanie was with before she was caught. Mel and Wanda (as they call her in the caves) become best friends, constantly talking to each other. The humans don't kill Wanda and she slowly earns their trust. Wanda is in love with Ian, but Jaime is Melanie's love and both are in the Caves. Mel's Uncle Jeb has found these caves and can grow some crops and it has a bathing area and everything. The group does have to go on raids to get supplies every so often. Wanda becomes more and more like a human. She divulgdes information to the humans and after seeing them chop up souls, she finally tells them how to remove the souls from the Hosts, with out damaging either of them, but unsure if the Hosts would come around or not. She also knew that she, Wanda, would also have to go, to give Mel herself back. Wanda had finally found a planet she felt at home on and didn't want to be sent to another one, so Doc promised her that he would bury her with the other two dead, without telling the others. However, Jared followed her and convinced Doc to save her and that they would find another body for her. They needed her, since she could go among the other Souls and get whatever they needed. She awoke in another body, stayed in love with Ian and vice versa and went out on raids with the group. on the last raid in the book, they realize they've walked into a trap. However, the group they meet is also human and Wanda realizes she is the one who is in trouble here, until a person from the other group comes over and shakes her hand and says that "it was ok, because they had one too." They agreed it was a strange world and Wanda told him that they weren't the only rouge souls (since Sunny was still a soul in a Host body that wouldn't wake up on it's own.).

Usually I hate books with ambiguous endings, but I really liked this one because I feel everthing was going to continue in a positive manner. I did find it odd that through the book I didn't think that there could possibly be another human group. After the fact it seems very likely, but the way the book was written it was like she wanted you to belileve that the Cave held the only humans left.
