I'm a poetess, and author of children books. I'm writing all the time it seems. Even if it's just noting poems or story lines. I have to mention that I found the books "Why Is My Head Turned On Backwards along with Drugs The Modern Day Slave Master most compelling and thought provoking reads. Hello dear member of the Black Feminist/Womanist Literature group! It's J., the admin., and I'm writing to inform you of the group's new look! (And it goes beyond the change in our group picture, though it is nice, don't you agree?) :) What we're discussing now: Patricia Hill Collins' Black Feminist Thought, Toni Morrison's Sula for our July read, our little BIG Read: 7 short stories in 7 days to begin later this month, the National Black Arts Festival where Alice Walker and Pearl Cleage are featured speakers, and more!

We'll soon have a group blog up and running, will begin profiling the uberly dynamic authors within our own group, discussing women's/girls action coalitions in your city, reviving some of our good ol' threads, etc.

I challenge everyone to invite at least one friend (already a member of shelfari or otherwise) to join the Black Feminist/Womanist Literature group and to log in at least bi-weekly. (Though weekly would be wonderful!) And I pledge to do the same.

And did you know that Toni Morrison's new novel, A Mercy, is due to be released in November? Ah, you would if you'd visited our group page! (No, actually, I haven't posted this information. lol) But do stop by and fall into the purple haze that is extraordinary literature by feminists of color!

    Love, Jaya

No I am not an author. But I read a lot and encourage others to do the same. You might want to take a look at How to Manage Your Parents Without Manipulation, listed on my shelf. It is always nice to hear from you. What is the name of your new book?

I apologize for the error in the name. I was reading your other posts and I thought that was your name.

Anyway, thank you for the welcome as well. It would be a pleasure for you to look at my website and let me know what you think.

I'll be looking forward to keeping in touch with you in the future.

Yasmin, Thank you so much for offering to be my friend. I checked out your profile and your writing sounds very beautiful and inspirational. I also think that your work with children is something that benefits them greatly and instills in them a sense of self worth that is so key to their healing and survival in today's world.

What you are doing is very personal to me and I support in every way.

I will have to look at your website and enjoy the jazz at the same time. Please fee free to check out mine: www.freewebs.com/authorkris/

I am still in the process of putting it together but on there you can find some of the poems in my book "Windwalker."

    Thanks again,

    Kris
