I am a young adult and reference librarian on Long Island who loves to read and is addicted to books on CD. I'd have to say mystery is my favorite genre and I still enjoy reading young adult books so I guess I'm in the right career. Although reading is my favorite hobby, I also like watching movies and taking road trips.

    Going Bovine

This book was one boy's mad cow adventure that just went on and on into absurdity. Although the book had quite a bit of wit and sarcasm, the storyline was just too out there for my taste and the book was extremely long winded.

This was a light and quick read. It reminded me of Practical Magic - two sisters with magical powers and one has an abusinve boyfriend. This book dealt more with flowers and a magical garden then actual spells, etc. but it still had a similar feeling. There was romance and the magic was light so it was an easy read.

A solid, action-packed entry in the Jack Daniels series. Jack is called to a sniper shooting where she and her partner fall under attack and 10 cops are shot in the process. After Jack takes a shot at the sniper and almost hits him, he's angered enough to follow her home to try to take her out. He's not alone though, because Jack's nemesis Alex Cork is lying in wait for Alex to get revenge. Jack, her friends and family are in for one hell of a night.

The second book in this series sucked me in just like the first did. Katniss and Peeta think the Hunger Games are behind them now that they've made it out in one piece. That is until the Quarter Quell has them finding themselves in danger once again. Katniss is torn between her feelings for Gale and Peeta; is doing everything she can to protect her family from President Snow and the Capital and on top of all of that she's now the poster child for The Rebellion. Collins does a wonderful job of pulling you into a story that feels like it could be taking place at any time not just in the made up land of Panem.

I erally like this series. Abby is psychic, her boyfriend Dutch is an FBI agent and her best friend Candace is a PI. Abby & Candace are asked to assit with an FBI case and the Agent in Charge is none too happy. Plenty of mystery, romance and psychic visions to go around. It's cutesy in some places and a little out there in others, but it's a quick and fun read that takes you away for a few hours.

  • Dirty Martini: A Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels Mystery

Another solid entry in the Jack Daniels series. In this one Jack is hunting a man who's poisoning Chicago. Will she be able to catch him before he does too much damage? The stuff with Harry is getting a little old. He's put in there for cominc relief, but he's just annoying. It's like Konrath is trying to be too much like Evanovish with quirky characters and it's just not working as well. Witty dialogue and Jack's sarcasm are fun to read though.

Liam is always in trouble and can never please his father. When he's caught with a girl in his father's office it's the end of the line. Liam is sent to live with his "Aunt" Pete in a trailer park where he tries to get back into his dad's good graces - and fails miserably. A nice coming-of-age book that shows how important it is to be yourself because happiness has to come from within.

Capricorn Anderson has grown up on a commune with his hippie grandmother so when his grandmother is injured he must enter real school and learn how to deal with the real world. Filled with silliness and told in varying chapters by students, adults and Cap himself, Korman has written a book that is very similar to No More Dead Dogs. Good for middle schoolers looking for a quick read, School has childish humor and antics but not much in the way of depth.

  • Marcelo in the Real World
    • Rated 3 stars

Marcelo has a type of autism, closer to Asberger's Syndrome, which means although he's high funtioning it takes him longer to process and do things than it does other people. He loves the school he's at and training the horses the school uses for therapy so when he gets a job there for the summer he's very excited. Everything changes though when his father, a high-power attorney, decides he wants Marcelo to work in the office mailroom instead of at the school. Not only that, but Marcelo's future at his school hinges on him succeeding in the "real world" as his father likes to call it. Marcelo's experiences at the law firm change who he is and as he learns that there are often hard decisions to make, that no matter who you are, if you follow your heart you can't go wrong.
