Holloway is actively involved in the work of the National Center for Family Literacy and Autism Speaks, raising awareness and participation for the issues she deeply cares about both as a mother and an author. She is especially honored to have participated in several events with the Special Needs Network, whose work is paramount in helping at-risk families find their way. In 2011, Monica received a A Woman of Distinction Award from SNN for her contributions toward raising awareness about autism in the Los Angeles community.

She lives in Los Angeles with her family and two golden retrievers, a hamster, four hermit crabs, three dumpy frogs, two rabbits and six neon tetras.
