Recently read The Princess and the Goblin and I just finished The Princess and Curdie. i really enjoyed the second book. i think it might have been better than the first, actually. there are a lot of important lessons for children AND adults in this book. MacDonald's religion really comes out in his writing in the way he treats his characters (naughty people are made into grotesque creatures, strangers are treated unkindly and stoned). i think the fact that there are 49 creatures that help them in take back the castle and win the battle is a reference to something but i don't know what. does anyone have an idea?
