Richard Carl Laymon was born in Chicago, but grew up in California. He received his BA in English Lit from
Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. He went on to Loyola University in Los Angeles where he received his
MA in library studies. Laymon, like many well known writers today, worked as a schoolteacher and a librarian
before becoming a full time writer. He was not well known in the US, but became wildly successful in the UK. He
has written more than 30 novels, and more than sixty short stories. His novel Flesh was named Best Horror Novel of
1988 by Science Fiction Chronicle, and his novels Funland and Flesh were both nominated for the Bram Stoker Award.
He actually won the Bram Stoker for The Travelling Vampire Show in 2001.
He is a horror legend, and it's a misfortune for all readers that he is no longer with us.
