Mary Gordon is the author of seven novels, including Pearl, Final Payments, and Spending, the memoirs The Shadow Man and Circling My Mother, several essay and short story collections; Reading Jesus: A Writer’s Encounter with the Gospels; and a biography of Joan of Arc. She is the recipient of a Lila Wallace–Reader’s Digest Writers’ Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, The Story Prize for The Stories of Mary Gordon and, in 2008, she was named the official New York State Author and given the Edith Wharton Citation of Merit for Fiction. She teaches at Barnard College and lives in New York City.
