Andrew Hurley is primarily known as an English translator of Spanish literature, regarding a variety of authors, especially work of the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges.
Now a retired professor, he had served at the Universidad de Puerto Rico in the English Department. He obtained his doctorate in 1973 from Rice University (writing on narrative strategies and reader response in the theory of the novel).
