Michael Martchenko was born in France in 1942. He came to Canada as a child and was educated in Toronto. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1966. He has won several awards for design and illustration. He served as Creative Director of TDF Artists in Toronto before becoming a children's book illustrator.
