Karl Wiegers grew up on Air Force bases in Japan, California, Texas, Maine, Italy, France, and Idaho, then started eighth grade. He received a BS in chemistry from Boise State College, and an MS and PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois. Karl's professional career began at Kodak in Rochester, NY, as a photographic research scientist, but he moved into software development around 1983. At Kodak he worked as a software engineer, manager, software quality engineer, and process improvement leader.
Karl launched his software process consulting and training company, Process Impact, in 1997. He has given more than 500 presentations worldwide, and he has written six books and 175 articles on software development, management, chemistry, and military history. Karl's professional interests include requirements engineering, project management, technical peer reviews, risk management, metrics, and software process improvement.
More recently, Karl's interests have shifted to the self-help genre with publication of his first nontechnical book, a memoir of life lessons titled "Pearls from Sand: How Small Encounters Lead to Powerful Lessons." Karl's personal interests include volunteering (Meals on Wheels, library, Oregon Food Bank), wine tasting, guitar, writing and recording music, and a bit of motorcycling.
