Matthew John Reilly is an Australian action thriller writer focusing on fast paced non-stop action. He wrote his first book 'Contest' while just 19 and self-published it in 1996 because every major publisher rejected it. Pan Macmillan republished 'Contest' in 2000 with 17 extra pages of new content. Prior to its 2003 US-release Reilly adapted the book to take place in the New York Public Library.
His first industry-produced novel, Ice Station,'Ice Station', proved immensely popular so that it had to be reprinted multiple times in its first two years. Building on the huge success of Ice Station Reilly wrote another three books and one novella featuring Ice Station's main character, Shane M. Schofield, call-sign Scarecrow.
A huge movie fan, Reilly owns several movie prop reproductions including a life-size statue of Han Solo frozen in carbonite (Star Wars), a 1:1 scale replica of the Jango Fett helmet (also Star Wars), and a DeLorean DMC-12 (Back to the Future).
