I read Sword of Shannara (and subsequent books) after reading the LOTR series and wanted to try a new fantasy. I love the characters, they are rich and complex. Found it interesting that the "original" world was high tech and destroyed itself , and was able to eventually start anew. MTFRS is right in that truth pivotal. I find it interesting that only the descendants of Shannara are able to wield the "truth".

I first read The Sword of Shannara when an aunt gave it to me (I actually still have that book!) That was 25 years ago and I haven't stopped reading them. I am loving reading the lastest when he shows how things came about. They are a little different than the "normal" Shannara world.

I was introduced to Terry Brooks' world when I first read the Sword of Shannara when I was in High School. After that, I was hooked. I like the way his characters developed, even the villains. Truth is a pivotal point for this series. I do agree that with the premise, that Truth, as it is, not as we wish it to be is a formidable weapon indeed.
