I am from India, and the Ramayana is an epic that comes to mind when I read LOTR. I imagine Rama as an elf, Ravana as Sauron the evil wizard. There are many similarities in the way JRRT thought up the epic with Valmiki who wrote the Ramayana.

A great mind, capable of seeing beyond the surface. I admire his perspective over the world and the fact that he was a magician of words. reading his works has been a magnificent experience.

I not only love LoTR, I also love his less-read books, like Roverandom. It was published after his death, but it's a great story, and a lot easier to read than LoTR.

Just think how much effort he would have put into this project of a life time. I love LOTR.. not only that, the entire idea of the Middle earth and all subsequent stories, are really amazing.. And the languages, the script, different races and cultures and what not. how could possibly a human can think and device such a versatile epic.. Every time I open this book, I cant help myself thinking this..

For me, Tolkien was a genius. He created an entire mythology, plus several languages. His imagination knew no bounds. :))
