Jewis, born in del Baden Wurttemberg, he has to leave is country to escape Nazi persecution. His training takes place in his city by attending the "Karl Alexander Gymnasium" a glorious traditions high school, and further, from 16 years, he studied law in England.

Since 1927, he practiced the successful and lucrative profession of lawyer, first in England and then in America; he was an active member of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD). He left Germany to go first in France, where he became famous as a painter, and three years later in England where he had his first success in this profession.

In 1971 he published his most famous work: the "Miniature" novel The Reunion. Thus began a trilogy.

The reputation in the literary field came with the autobiographical work The Making of an Englishman, in addition to the aforementioned The Reunion; Tthis little book, after an initial failure, was translated into nineteen languages and, in 1989, and inspired Jerry Schatzberg famous movie.
