Born and raised in the Midwest. A self-proclaimed "former tomboy," she grew up the only girl in a family of boys. She discovered her talent for writing at the age of 15, when she began writing down the stories that she conceived. Despite her love of writing, she took an unorthodox approach to writing, and claims to have avoided English courses beyond the basic requirements in high school and college.

Dawn Cook is a pen name for the author Kim Harrison. Because her books written under the pen name Dawn Cook are so different from her Kim Harrison books, readers are warned they may find her other books too different and not enjoy them.
