In 1997 David Small received a Caldecott Honor and The Christopher Medal for The Gardener with his wife, author Sarah Stewart. He won the Caldecott Medal in 2001 for So You Want to Be President? His drawings have appeared in the New Yorker and the New York Times. David Small and Sarah Stewart make their home in an historic manor house in Michigan.
