Noted writer of handbooks on the English language similar to Elements of Style. Her work is commonly used in colleges and universities in introductory writing classes. She's worked for more than 30 years at a junior college called Prince George's Community College, in Maryland.
She conducted tests based on the text in her handbooks in her classroom. The people who took these tests are college writers. More than a thousand people appeared for these class tests. The handbooks written by Ms. Hacker are increasingly becoming popular because they can be used as reference books by students and teachers alike. The students can and do refer to these reader-friendly handbooks on their own.
