RW "Obie" Holmen was born and raised in central Minnesota. After graduating from Dartmouth College and serving with the US Army in Vietnam as a LRRP (scout), he returned to Minnesota to study at the University of Minnesota Law School. He was a trial attorney in St. Cloud for a quarter century, and he and wife Lynn now reside in Northfield, Minnesota where Obie has turned his attention to writing. His work of historical fiction, "A Wretched Man, a novel of Paul the apostle", was released to critical acclaim and an enthusiastic readership in 2010. He is also publishing a series of Vietnam vignettes. The name of the series is "LRRP Rangers Vietnam". Obie refers to this short story, and the others, as "autobiographical fiction". They are based on true incidents but the stories are told with literary embellishment. Obie served with K Company, 75th Infantry (Rangers) in the central highlands of Vietnam in 1969-70. During his Vietnam service, he was twice awarded a bronze star for valor in combat.
