Jasper Fforde's work has been variously described as Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Comedy and Crime - and often a mixture of all four. His first novel 'The Eyre Affair' was published in 2001 and followed the adventures of his heroine Thursday Next as she attempts to find who has kidnapped Jane Eyre from the Bronte novel - and more importantly, get her back.

A New York Times bestseller and described as 'Silly books for smart people' The Eyre Affair was followed by five sequels, most of which take place in the 'Bookworld' - the dangerous and entirely fictional world that exists on the other side of the printed page. The seventh in the series is due to be published in the Spring of 2012.

Fforde is also engaged in three other series. The Nursery Crime series centre around a police division that investigate nursery stories as police procedurals. 'The Big Over Easy' (2005) looks at the murder of Humpty Dumpty and 'The Fourth Bear' (2006) lifts the curtain on what really happened in the three bear's house, and what became of Goldilocks.

The 'Shades of Grey' series (2009) is a post-apolcalytic series which imagines a rigid authoratrian regime based on visual colour and Public Schools.

Fforde's fourth series is for young adults, and is a comedy romp thorugh the Magic genre. 'The Last Dragonslayer' was published in 2010, and its sequel, 'The Song of the Quarkbeast' in 2011.

In 2003 his novel 'The Well of Lost Plots' won the Wodehouse Bollinger Award for comedy fiction .

Fforde lives in Wales with his wife and family, and despite his best attempts to do otherwise, spends most of his time writing.
