Although most sites and many books transcribe his name as Tahar Ben Jelloun (writing "Ben" with a capital B) it should be transcribed as Tahar ben Jelloun, as some other sources do, the same as they do with "de" or "da" in French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian (Alfred de Musset, Miguel de Cervantes, Vasco da Gama, Leonardo da Vinci). "Bin" or "ben" means in Arabic "son of".
