In July, 2011 I got the pleasure of hearing Jane Hamilton speak at the Iowa City Book Festival. She was AWESOME! She's a great speaker and told some really funny stories and anecdotes. Additionally, Ms. Hamilton was very gracious, signed people's books and spoke with everyone that wanted to talk with her. I have read Map of the World and was just crushed by the sadness if it. I'm looking forward to reading "Laura Rider's Masterpiece". She talked about it quite a lot and it sounds funny and unique.
