Liz Wood has lived on four different continents and in at least twice as many countries where she has worked as a journalist, translator, English teacher and university lecturer. Although she has had tea in the Sahara, gone sailing on the Seine and got her kicks on Route 66, her favorite things remain quite domestic: books, chocolate and coffee, preferably all together. She reads everything from French comic books to Italian scandal sheets, German philosophy to American romances (the latter late into the night). She has also been known to devour the big letters on the backs of cereal boxes and to gorge on the small print of candy wrappers.

Liz has recently moved and has added another country to the notches on her much-traveled bed. While trying to find her way through strange new public transportation systems, administrative red tape, carton boxes and hospitality networks, she is also engaged in a relentless tug-of-war with her preadolescent son. She is trying to convince him and his beagle to do more housekeeping, so she has more time to, um, read.
