Cecil Day Lewis was born in Ireland, but brought up in London by his father after the death of his mother in 1906. He was the British Poet Laureate from 1968 until his death. He also wrote mystery stories using the pseudonym Nicholas Blake. He was the father of actor Daniel Day Lewis and television chef Tamasin Day Lewis.
