Joseph Smith was the first prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, better known as LDS or Mormons, in this dispensation. He was called as a prophet in 1805 until his martydom in 1844. He restored the true church after receiving a vision of God and his Son, Jesus Christ, which was called the First Vision. He was praying to know which church he should join and was told that he should not join any of them because they were all incorrect. He was later shown to a place where the plates, or records, of the people of ancient America had hidden them for our generation. He translated it and it has now been printed over 106 different languages under the title of "The Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ."
