A graduate of American University in Washington, DC, Ann Beattie started her professional career writing short stories for New Yorker magazine before moving on to publishing novels and collections of short stories. One of her most acclaimed books, Chilly Scenes of Winter, was made into a movie which drew rave reviews from critics.
