Daniel Silva began his writing career as a journalist covering the Democratic National Convention. Later, he was transferred to Washington, D.C. Then he was appointed as UPI's Middle East correspondent.
Silva's first novel, The Unlikely Spy, became an instant New York Times best-seller, and in 1997 he left CNN to pursue writing full-time. His novel The Messenger won the Barry Award for Best Thriller.
In January 2009, Silva was appointed to a five-year term on the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
He is married to NBC News Today correspondent Jamie Gangel. They have two children, Lily and Nicholas.
