Overview edit see section history

An American writer and lecturer in ethics, economics, and sociology. She was associated with movements to improve the conditions of labor and to advance the cause of women. Her particular significance in Gothic literature is due mainly to her use of the theme or horror within--the abnormal mind terrorizing itself in the dim regions of insanity.
