Mihail Sadoveanu is considered one of the most important creators in Romanian literature due in part to the wealth of his writing. Another reason is his unique handling of the myth which he uses as a means of further developing the narrative material. His work of fiction can be divided into several themes: - HISTORY: he uses Medieval Moldova as a model and warning for present misfortunes. Such novels as Fratii Jderi, Nunta domnitei Ruxandra, Nicoara Potcoava, Zodia Cancerului sau Vremea Ducai-Voda, Neamul Soimarestilor depict an ideal time when the people were closely connected with the ruler of the time and therefore were happy. - SOCIAL THEME: other works deal with the hardships of life in the small towns during his time (Bordeienii etc.) - MYTHOLOGY: one of his more controversial theme is linked with the treatment of myth in such works as Baltagul, Creanga de aur, Hanu' Ancutei (some of the short-stories). Critic Al. Paleologu has argued that the deep structure of these novels and stories go deeper than anyone imagined, even to the ancient myths of ressurection of Isis and Osiris.
