Laura grew up in the military, traveling around the States and Europe.
She earned degrees in music and education, and before becoming an author, worked as a freelance musician and music teacher, including general music, band, and private lessons on several instruments. This is reflected in music-themed characters and settings.
In addition to the Blue Bells Trilogy, she is working on several other novels and a non-fiction on raising a large family.
She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, nine children, dog, and cats.
