Hi, Amy, glad to see you back on Shelfari! Hope you're settling in. Have you read any of those Jody P books since the earlier discussions? I can't remember if you read My Sister's Keeper with bookgroup or not. It is excellent, but you need some serious "rest" after reading it; it's _intense_. By rest, I mean fluffy books or feel-good books. I liked 10th Circle, but I definitely understand why others don't. I related very closely to the family arrangement and have wanted DH to read it. It will definitely disturb you as the mom of a daughter who will soon be the age of the character. It made me think about the things I can do to prevent such tragedies though. I'm still not ready to read 19 Min. It's on my list, but when I think about it, I'm just not ready. I think it would be good to go away for a bookgroup weekend and listen to it together or something so that there is lots of support! I asked DH and DD about listening together, and they both said NO WAY! Tell EM hi for me.
Thanks for the invite Amy. I look forward to sharing book ideas with you!
Great taste in books! I loved the Golden Compass and the Fifth sacred thing might be my favorite book of all time. I would enjoy being your Shelfari friend...
I first read Second Glance and I loved it! I also loved The Pact, My Sister's Keeper and Nineteen Minutes. The last three have very intense subject matter. The only book of hers that I didn't love was The Tenth Circle. Hope that helps!
My sister's keeper is very good - but be warned, as a mother it tugs at your heartstrings!! The other was good too, though not as memorable as 'MSK'. Those are the only 2 by JP that I've read so far. I have MSK if you want to borrow it.
Thanks Amy for letting me know about this great website! I think it will be really fun.Love, Lisa
